In March 2024, we found ourselves in the stunning Norway, spending a week skiing on some of the most iconic mountains in the Romsdalen region. Despite being known as the capital of mountaineering in Norway, with some of the largest vertical cliffs in Europe, such as the Troll Wall, the area also offers numerous options for ski mountaineering.
With the charming town of Andalsnes as our base, we embarked on daily ski excursions and ascents, averaging around 1000 meters of elevation per day. Joining us on this trip was our friend Takis, with whom we’ve shared the joy of skiing for many years! The view of the sea and fjords from the mountains is a unique and characteristic ximage of Norway.
The region certainly demands a high level of skiing proficiency and good technique in moving with skins. The ,mostly hard, snow conditions required precise ski edging, both during ascents and descents. Jim’s experience, combined with Espen’s knowledge of the terrain, ensured six days of high-quality skiing!
Norway captivated us, and in 2025 we’ll be returning, this time much further north, to the Lofoten Islands.
